I have not yet found time to transfer the old info pages to the new website. Also because I give priority to finish the pdf file (PKN-D-70-RG PKN D-70 Reference Guide) rather than work on the webstie..
Still there is some information that I think is essential for some people to know:
- Keybed problems. Many D-70 synthesizers have problems with some keys that will not sound. While I thought that this was all due to the Red Glue problem, that was not the case. Although the Red Glue problem is annoying, there is a good solution to solve this. The biggest problem for your Roland Synth is dust! Somehow, dust manages to nestle itself under the contact rubbers. Loosening the rubbers is a difficult job because there is a big chance that the pins will break off when you let go. A new rubber contact strip may then be necessary. But cleaning the print will easily solve a lot of key problems. And after that, prevention is better than cure: a dust cover for your synth is essential!
- Red Glue is a bit of work to solve, but doable even if you are not that technical. You have to open up the synth, put the keys in caustic soda, wait one night and then all the keyweights will have come off. Then you can stick the weights again to the keys.
- If the screen has garbled text and there is no sound, this is not a defect. You will need to load the original factory sounds by SysEx to solve this. It might be because that the internal battery has low voltage, or that a wrong SysEx file was loaded or errors did occur while loading.
- The original internal battery does actually last a long time. Mine is still working after 32 years…
